Ralph Watson is an English actor who has worked extensively in theatre, television and film for over fifty years, possibly best known for "Doctor Who," "When the Boat Comes In" and "Second Verdict."
Watson was born on January 20, 1936 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear. Not much is known about his life and career. His first TV appearance was "Front Page Story" in 1962, followed by roles in "The Three Musketeers," "Trapped," George and the Dragon," "The First Lady," "The Wednesday Play," "Kate" among several other TV appearances. In the 60s and 70s, he appeared in four "Doctor Who" television stories alongside three Doctors; he worked with with Patrick Troughton twice.
From 1976-1978, Watson was among the sketch performers on the Fifth Season of Dave Allen at Large, following his time afterward with roles in "Cars," "The Liver Birds," "Bloomers," "To the Manor Born" and ""Prospects" with random roles in movies, such as "Jamie Running."
In the 80s, he supplemented his income with a job as a supply teacher in South London. He had a recurring role in the 1984 to 1994 series, "The Bill," and had parts the the mini-series "The Glass Virgin" and "A Dinner of Herbs." In 2009, he returned to the BBC to record the audio commentary for the Doctor Who DVD box set "Peladon Tales" where he was reunited with fellow cast members Donald Gee and Nina Thomas as well as producer Barry Letts and script editor Terrance Dicks.
In 2019 he reprised the role of Captain Knight in The Diary of River Song: Series Six audio story The Web of Time.
