The Benny Hill Show Wikia

Lover Come Back to Me is a comedy duet performed by Benny Hill and Pat Ashton. The song is based on the version composed by Sigmund Romberg with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II for the Broadway show "The New Moon" and made famous by Billie Holiday. Benny and Pat's version is plagued with obvious production errors, such as an uncooperative gate, wardrobe mishaps, unrelenting props and Benny wandering over a mirror meant to be a pond.

You went away I left you
We broke the ties that bind
I wanted to forget you
Let the past behind
Still the magic of the night I met you
You've been deeply in my mind

The sky was blue (The sky was blue)
And high above (And high above)
The moon was new (The moon was new)
And so was love (and so was love)

Lover, come back to me...
You came at last
Love had its day
That day is past
You've gone away This aching heart of mine is singing
Lover, come back to me

When I remember every little thing
You used to do
I'm so lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder you were lonely

The sky is blue (The sky is blue)
The night is cold (The night is cold)
The moon is new (The moon is new)
But love is old (but love is old)
And while I'm waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover, come back to me
