Bio

Golden Days is a ballad melody set to music and performed by Dickey Dido and Miss Pearl (Benny Hill and Eira Heath). The lyrics are sung separately rather than in unison like a conversation set to music. Dido sets off the song with Miss Pearl singing the next lyric, alternating until the chorus, after which Miss Pearl starts and alternating until the chorus when Dido starts off again. Despite the strange comments to Miss Pearl, the song ends with the duo in pleasant camaraderie.

Lyrics

Dickey - We passed each other in the street today and memories came back.
Miss Pearl - Like the time you came for lunch that day at my poor old mammy's shack.
Dickey - She said, "Now tell me, can you guess what's for lunch today my son?" Well, I knew it was roly-poly foot cause she only had one stocking on.

Both - But those golden days are over, they're in the long gone by,
Never more will they return no matter how we try.

Miss Pearl - I went swimming in my birthday suit in the pond down by the wier. I saw you there, I said, "Go away,"
Dickey - "But I pretended not to hear.
Miss Pearl - I said, "If you don't go I'll stay in the water till it gets dark."
Dickey - I said, "Don't worry about me, ma'am, I just came to feed the shark."

Both - But those golden days are over, they're in the long gone by,
Never more will they return no matter how we try.

Dickey - But it was just this morning that I again saw you,
Miss Pearl - But I was with my husband and several children too.
Dickey - As I passed you in the street, oh I smiled for I could see,
Miss Pearl - What a big, fat, ugly crow you turned out to be.

Both - But those golden days are over, they're in the long gone by.
Never more will they return; no matter how we try.
