Benny Hill was a short-lived 25-minute situational comedy anthology that ran from December 23, 1962 to October 1, 1963 that starred Benny Hill. In 1960, the BBC grew tired of its numerous sketch comedy shows and tried to herd their comedy stars into more focused situational comedies. Developed by Dan Freeman and Charlie Drake, the post-Monty Python series featured Benny in nineteen self-contained plots featuring him playing different characters in each episode confronted by different circumstances in each episode. Although brilliant and intriguing in concept, the series is almost forgotten today, the series involved Hill working with someone else's material under his usual allotted time, and he was eventually returned to his original 50-minute sketch comedy format.
